Joseph Thomas

Joe qualified as a solicitor in 1980 and has since built a distinguished career. While he has extensive general experience he has in recent decades been focused primarily on all aspects of property law. Joe has developed a particular expertise in new build residential developments. Joe has over the course of his career acted and continues to act for some of the largest house builders in the northeast. 

His work has frequently involved significant and complex developments including mixed residential and commercial schemes comprising in excess of 1000 units. His deep understanding of the planning, conveyancing and regulatory dimensions of large-scale projects has made him a trusted adviser. Joe also acts for clients in the purchase, sale and leasing of residential and commercial property. Joe Is known for his pragmatic approach and commitment to delivering the best quickest and least stressful outcome for his clients.

Joe's contribution to the wider profession has also been substantial. He served as a member of the conveyancing committee of the Law Society from 2008 to 2023 during which time he completed a term as chair. In addition to his committee work Joe is a long-standing member of the associate faculty of the Law School of the Law Society where he regularly lectures and tutors. He is also a frequent speaker at CPD events nationwide particularly in the area of property law and new build residential conveyancing.

Beyond his advisory and teaching roles Joe regularly acts as a mediator and arbitrator in property related disputes. He is also frequently instructed as an expert witness in matters concerning conveyancing practise bringing clarity and authority to complex issues relating expert determination.
